The original idea behind this spaceship was that it was intended as a stealth ship. So muted colors, mostly dark, made sense. That's where the dark blues and blacks came from, along with the functional dull silver of the engine and weapon areas. Then, since it looked a bit boring with such a subdued color palette, I decided that in its heyday it had bright green lights on it. The green wasn't as stark a difference from the blues, since both are cooler colors, but it let me get some variety and some pop onto the ship without it looking too out of place. Then to destroy it I just threw as much grunge and dirt and paint chipping at the model as it could handle, and the results speak for themselves. Overall this was probably the most fun I've had since fighting with the lighting a little while back, and one of the reasons for that was having a clear goal/story in my head that helped me figure out where I was going with the textures so that I wasn't floundering at the last minute.
