My strategy for approaching this exercise was just to have fun with it. The biggest challenge was always the programs crashing or not being installed right, not the actual exercise itself. Overall the way I went about it was to find a normal-ish picture, turn it into a texture in B2M, then start playing around with the sliders until I had something deliciously disgusting. At some point in the process I decided that I liked the way that turning it green made it look like algae, and from there putting it in Unreal and playing around with it a little bit more was fairly straightforward.
