Sci-Fi Room

Originally, I didn't have a plan for this room. I had assets, on which I'd used a very cool color scheme, and trying to go sci-fi felt like it was the way to go. So clearly that meant that I needed to have something glowing, because science fiction almost always has glowing things, and that was one of the hardest things to figure out how to make happen. That and the lighting really were frustrating, because one I'd never made things glow in Unreal before and two lighting in Unreal has different constraints than lighting a scene in real life does. To figure out the glowing it was a mixture of experimentation and lots of Google searches. The piece never really stressed me out, but the lighting certainly frustrated me. In the end I bumped up the ambient lighting (using a skylight) and put a point light under the ceiling so that it was lit from above. The lights in the bottom of the table were also a nightmare, but turning down their attenuation radius nipped that issue in the bud.
